About KPC

The Karachi Press Club (KPC), is an association of primarily news journalists, cameramen photographers, but also includes academics, business people and members of the public service, and is located at Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.

KPC is Pakistan’s first press club, established in December 1958 by a group of enthusiastic journalists in a Victorian style bungalow at Sarwar Shaheed Road (previously called “Ingle Road”). I.H. Burney was the first President of the KPC and today more than 2,100 working journalists, associated with electronic and print media, are members of this prestige club. KPC always plays a vital role in the democratic struggle in general and the struggle for press freedom in particular.

KCP- a non-profitable organization, always keen to provide maximum facilities to its members and their families. It has a restaurant with quality food and cheapest rates food for its members. ATM, Clinic, Utility store, Library, computer room and women common room are also a part of the club.

The KPC is housed in a double-story over 140 years old building and is a majestic heritage monument. The ground floor comprises the main hall where press conferences and functions with large audiences are held. The upper floor houses a well-stocked library, a committee room, and a TV lounge. Meet the Press is a prominent event of KPC, in which renowned/ head of institutions/ political leaders are invited to brief the media about their activities. Only working journalists are eligible for council membership of KPC, but it also offers associate membership to the renowned personalities and public relation officers etc.

The club is proud to have luminaries such as Prince Karim Aga Khan, renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, scientist and Nobel laureate Prof. Dr Abdus Salam, Prof. Dr Saleemuzzaman Siddiqui, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Alys Faiz, Habib Jalib, Ahmed Faraz, Josh Maleehabadi, Jahangir Khan, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, and Air Marshal (Retd.) are among the honoree members of KPC. Elections of KPC are held every year in the last week of December and since the establishment of the club not a single year has been missed. The KPC governing body has 12 members including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Joint Secretary and 7 members to run the affairs of KPC.

Presently Fazil Jamil, Web Editor of Daily Jang, is the president of KPC. Shazia Hasan from Daily Dawn is Vice President, Abdul Waheed Rajper of 92 News is Treasurer, Muhammad Rizwan Bhatti from Daily Business Recorder is Secretary (CEO) and Saqib Sagheer from daily Jang is Joint Secretary KPC. In addition, Abdul Aziz Sanghur from Abbtak, Suleman Sadat of Geo, Abdul Wasi Qureshi of Daily Aghaz, Muhammad Farooq Sami of ARY, Muhammad Nabeel of BBC, Hamid ur Rehman of Dunya News and Rasheed Memon of Kawish group are members of KPC governing body for the year 2021.
