On the first death anniversary of senior journalist and KTN Sukkur Bureau Chief, Shaheed Jan Muhammad Mahar, the Karachi Press Club Joint Action Committee organized a protest outside the club. The demonstration was held against the failure to arrest his killers. Participants included Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi, Secretary Shoaib Ahmed, acting President PFUJ Khurshid Abbasi, KUJ President Tahir Hassan Khan, and many other prominent journalists.
Speakers strongly condemned the inaction of Sindh Police and law enforcement agencies, questioning their effectiveness. They emphasized that if the killers of a senior journalist remain at large despite continuous protests, it raises serious concerns about the safety of ordinary citizens.
Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi warned that if the killers are not arrested, the protest will escalate to the Chief Minister’s House. Shoaib Ahmed, Secretary of the Press Club, added that the failure to apprehend the murderers has emboldened criminal elements, pointing to the recent murder of journalist Nasrullah Gadani in Ghotki. Khurshid Abbasi also highlighted the ongoing threats to journalists across Pakistan, calling for nationwide protests if justice is not served.
