The Karachi Press Club (KPC) has strongly condemned the recent decision by a local Islamabad court to impose a complete ban on 27 YouTube channels, calling it a serious violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression.

In an official statement issued on July 9, 2025, KPC President Fazil Jamili and Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan, along with the governing body, appealed to the higher judiciary to take urgent notice of the ruling. They emphasized that while the superior courts have consistently upheld the right to free speech, this contradictory move by a lower court raises serious concerns.

The KPC officials stated that the media industry in Pakistan is already facing a severe crisis, with many journalists unemployed. Several have turned to YouTube as a means of livelihood. Banning their channels is not only unjust but could be seen as an economic crackdown on independent journalists.

Karachi Press Club reaffirmed its support for the affected journalists and called on the judiciary to immediately lift the restrictions. “We stand with all those whose voices are being silenced,” the statement read.
