The Democrats Panel has once again demonstrated its dominance in the annual elections of the Karachi Press Club by securing a clean sweep across all 12 seats. This marks the 17th consecutive victory for the panel, underscoring its continued popularity and stronghold.
Polling for the elections took place on Saturday, December 28, from 9 AM to 6 PM without any breaks. Members of the Karachi Press Club showed great enthusiasm, with 871 out of 1,507 eligible members casting their votes. The election committee announced the results, which highlighted significant victories for the Democrats Panel:
- President: Fazil Jamili won with 560 votes against independent candidate Ayub Jan Sarhandi, who secured 273 votes.
- Vice President: Irshad Khokhar was elected unopposed.
- Treasurer: Imran Ayub triumphed with 668 votes, defeating independent Aftab Hussain with 149 votes.
- Secretary: Muhammad Sohail Afzal Khan won with 604 votes, while his opponent Qamar Rizvi garnered 237 votes.
- Joint Secretary: Muhammad Munsif achieved victory with 688 votes, leaving his rival Saeed Anwar Khan Buneri at 119 votes.
Additionally, the Democrats Panel claimed all seven seats on the governing body, with impressive vote counts ranging from 679 to 741. The independent candidates fell significantly behind in these contests.
The elections, held with the long-standing tradition of requiring voter ID cards, saw high energy and participation. Since its establishment in 1958, the Karachi Press Club has consistently conducted annual elections, fostering democratic engagement within the journalist community.
