Former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Kashmir and head of Kashmir Affairs JI Pakistan, Abdul Rasheed Turabi, strongly condemned India’s actions of August 5, 2019, terming them as “constitutional terrorism.” He said that by revoking Articles 370 and 35A, India ended Kashmir’s special constitutional status, unleashed new oppression, and turned the entire valley into the world’s largest prison.

Speaking to the media during his visit to the Karachi Press Club on Thursday, Turabi said Kashmiris have been struggling for freedom for over 70 years. “At many points, we were very close to achieving independence, but due to global conspiracies and weak strategies by our governments, opportunities were lost,” he remarked.

He highlighted that Kashmiri women are imprisoned in Tihar Jail on false charges, and frontline Hurriyat leaders remain behind bars, while youth and elders continue their peaceful struggle for freedom. He added that India’s attempt to impose an RSS-backed Hindu Chief Minister in Srinagar was foiled by Kashmiris themselves.

Turabi also appreciated Pakistan’s improving position, noting that the success of Operation Bunyad-ul-Marsous and a stronger national narrative have reinvigorated the Kashmir freedom movement. He emphasized that every positive development in Pakistan boosts the morale of Kashmiris, while negative news weakens their spirit.

He reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to provide moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of martyrs, he stressed that the Kashmir freedom movement remains alive and resilient, demanding that restrictions on Jamaat-e-Islami and pro-freedom activists be lifted.
