In a prestigious event organized by the Karachi Press Club, senior member and renowned sports journalist Syed Muhammad Sufi was honored for his significant contributions to journalism. The event, titled “An Evening with Syed Muhammad Sufi,” was presided over by Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi, with Secretary Shoaib Ahmed serving as the host.
The ceremony was attended by Syed Muhammad Sufi and his family, senior journalists, and notable sports personalities, including former national cricket team captain Younis Khan, ex-cricketers Sikandar Bakht, Tauseef Ahmed, Shoaib Muhammad, former national hockey team captain Samiullah, and former PCB selector Haroon Rasheed. Also in attendance were esteemed journalists like Mazhar Abbas, Afsar Imran, Tahir Hassan Khan, and many others.
President Saeed Sarbazi praised Sufi’s invaluable role in shaping players’ careers and his lasting impact on journalism. He emphasized the importance of honoring legends during their lifetimes. Secretary Shoaib Ahmed highlighted Sufi’s over 60-year association with journalism, his participation in movements against military rule, and his impressive career with prominent newspapers.
Former cricket captain Younis Khan lauded Sufi for his guidance and support, recalling how Sufi was the first to publish his picture after his maiden century. Veteran journalist Mahmood Sham and others also shared their admiration, highlighting Sufi’s influential headlines and mentorship.
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from Syed Muhammad Sufi and the presentation of traditional Ajrak and shields by the Karachi Press Club and other organizations in recognition of his outstanding services.
