The Joint Action Committee of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) convened a meeting under the leadership of KPC President Saeed Sarbazi. The primary agenda was the urgent demand for the arrest of the murderers of journalists Jan Muhammad Mehr and Nasrullah Gadani, as well as the assailants involved in the attack on Haider Mastoi.

During the meeting, Shoaib Ahmed, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee and Secretary of KPC, briefed attendees on the current situation. The meeting was attended by key figures such as PFUJ President G.M. Jamali, PFUJ Dastoor Secretary General A.H. Khanzada, KUJ President Tahir Hassan Khan, KUJ Secretary Liaquat Ali Khan, KUJ Dastoor President Hamid Rehman, KUJ Barna President Ijaz Ahmed, PEP President Muhammad Jameel, CRA Secretary Rehan Khan Chishti, and KPC Joint Secretary Muhammad Munsif.

The participants expressed deep concern over the lack of arrests related to the murders of Jan Muhammad Mehr and Nasrullah Gadani and the attack on Haider Mastoi. They called for immediate action to apprehend the culprits, emphasizing that these attacks are direct assaults on press freedom and attempts to intimidate journalists from performing their duties. The journalist leaders reaffirmed their commitment to defending press freedom and the sanctity of the written word, even at great personal sacrifice.

The committee expressed gratitude to the Sindh government for providing financial assistance to the family of Nasrullah Gadani and commended President Saeed Sarbazi for his efforts in this regard. The meeting also urged media owners to provide financial support to media workers who lose their lives while on duty.

Furthermore, the committee called on the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Interior Minister, and the IG Sindh to ensure the protection of journalists’ lives and property.

If the authorities fail to arrest those responsible for the attacks and murders of journalists, the committee warned of strong protests to demand justice.
