The Karachi Press Club (KPC) has strongly condemned the PECA Act, labeling it a black law, and announced a Freedom Convention on March 1 to protest against it.

During a consultative meeting chaired by KPC President Fazil Jamili, prominent journalists, legal experts, and civil society representatives criticized the PECA Act for targeting political parties, journalists, lawyers, doctors, workers, students, and teachers. They emphasized that the act suppresses freedom of expression and serves as a tool for undemocratic forces.

Participants urged KPC to launch a protest movement and take legal action against the government’s authoritarian policies. They unanimously demanded the immediate repeal of the act, calling for a united stand against its unconstitutional and oppressive measures.

The Freedom Convention on March 1 will bring together all affected communities to devise a future course of action against the PECA Act.
