A delegation of the Karachi Press Club (KPC) led by Secretary Aslam Khan visited journalist Aslam Shah, who is currently imprisoned at Landhi Jail. The delegation included Zain Ali, Treasurer of the Karachi Union of Journalists (Dastoor), and Abdul Rehman, Joint Secretary. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding Aslam Shah’s case and bail matters. Secretary Aslam Khan assured full support from the Karachi Press Club.

Meanwhile, KPC President Fazil Jamili, Secretary Aslam Khan, and members of the Managing Committee strongly condemned the arrest of Aslam Shah under the PECA Act by the NCCIA on a complaint filed by the Water Corporation. They termed the arrest a direct attack on press freedom and an attempt to suppress freedom of expression.

The Karachi Press Club stated that the misuse of controversial laws like the PECA Act against journalists violates democratic values and damages the credibility of state institutions. Harassment of journalists for performing their professional duties is unacceptable. The KPC warned that continued victimization of journalists would lead to strong protests by the journalistic community.

The Karachi Press Club demanded that the misuse of the PECA Act be stopped immediately, journalists be provided constitutional and legal protection, Aslam Shah be released unconditionally, and the case against him be withdrawn. KPC officials reaffirmed that the Karachi Press Club will never compromise on press freedom.
