The Karachi Press Club (KPC) awarded veteran journalist, columnist, poet, and author Mahmood Shaam with honorary membership in recognition of his significant contributions to journalism and literature. During a ceremony presided over by Acting President of KPC Nawab Qureshi, Mahmood Shaam expressed his gratitude for this honor, calling it a matter of great pride.
Shaam highlighted KPC’s longstanding role in advocating for press freedom and democracy. He reflected on his involvement in various movements that emerged from the Press Club, and the challenges he faced, including arrests and job dismissals. Mahmood Shaam emphasized the importance of continuing to uphold journalistic values in today’s difficult media environment.
KPC Acting President Nawab Qureshi praised Mahmood Shaam’s contributions, calling him an asset to the club, while Secretary Shoaib Ahmed commended KPC’s efforts to promote positive values in journalism.
The event was attended by several distinguished journalists and intellectuals, including Mahmood Shaam’s wife, Bilqees Mahmood, Mazhar Abbas, and Shamim Akhtar. At the conclusion, Shaam donated books from his personal collection to the KPC library.
