Geo News management has demanded to take notice of NIRC cases against its workers, dismissal of Karachi and Islamabad bureau chiefs and non-payment of salaries in other channels including Bol News.
According to the details, the convener and secretary of Karachi Press Club, Karachi Press Club, Karachi Union of Journalists’ Joint Action Committee consisting of three factions and media associations, Shoaib Ahmed, on behalf of Chairman Pakistan Broadcasters Association Shakeel Masood Hussain and other officials and members. In the letter, the management of Geo TV said that Karachi bureau chief Faheem Siddiqui and Islamabad bureau chief Mudassar Saeed were dismissed for the crime of raising their voice for the increase in the salaries of the employees. The salaries of the employees have not been increased for the last seven years. Shoaib Ahmed drew the attention of the PBA officials to the non-payment of salaries in various institutions including Bol. While the Press Club has always stood by them, some media owners are trying to fray this strong relationship through their actions which is of the moment for press freedom in this country. The Joint Action Committee hoped that the owners would sit down with the journalists and resolve these issues soon so that both sides could work for the strength of the media and freedom of expression.
