KARACHI: Sindh Caretaker Home Minister Brigadier Retired Haris Nawaz vowed to get ‘better results’ from the police soon as a manhunt continued for senior journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar’s killers.

“The protection of journalists’ lives and properties are among top priorities. The police force is active to arrest the murderers of the KTN Sukkur Bureau Chief Jan Mohammad Mahar and we would see better results soon,” Sindh Caretaker Home Minister Haris Nawaz told KPC President Saeed Sarbazi and Secretary Shoaib Ahmed.

Mr Haris Nawaz visited Karachi Press Club (KPC) today and held a meeting with the office-bearers and senior journalists.

The KPC President Saeed Sarbazi expressed concerns over the delay in the arrest of Mahar’s killers and demanded immediate action. He said that Mahar’s killers are still at large despite the government’s assurances which increases concerns of the martyr journalist’s family and the entire journalist fraternity.

KPC Secretary Shoaib Ahmed took up the issue of rising robbery incidents with journalists. He expressed serious concerns over the police inaction after a KPC senior member Akhtar Shaheen Rind and his family members were deprived of cash, mobile phones and car by the armed robbers a few days ago.

Shoaib Ahmed demanded Nawaz to take immediate notice of the robbery incident and seek a report from the concerned police officers. During the meeting, the senior journalist apprised Nawaz about the details of the mugging incident.

The home minister assured the KPC president and secretary of addressing the complaints. He said that the authorities issued instructions to the police officers to address the issues to the journalists. He vowed that the government would compensate the losses bore by the journalists.

Sindh Caretaker Home Minister Haris Nawaz said that the authorities were working on modern lines to improve law and order situation across the province.
