Chief Secretary Sindh, Syed Asif Haider Shah, visited the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, praising the institution as a historic pillar that has played a vital role in supporting democracy. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by President Saeed Sarbazi, Secretary Shoaib Ahmed, and the Governing Body members. As a token of appreciation, the Chief Secretary was presented with a traditional Sindhi Ajrak and the club’s souvenir. He also toured various departments of the Press Club.
During the visit, the President and Secretary highlighted the financial challenges the club is facing due to the staggered payment of the annual grant. They requested the remaining funds to be released in a lump sum to address these issues. Chief Secretary Shah assured that the remaining funds would be released soon and that he would personally ensure the matter is resolved. He also mentioned that significant progress had been made regarding the development work in the Journalist Colony at Hawksbay and the allocation of plots for 700 new members. A meeting would be held next week to finalize these matters.
Syed Asif Haider Shah emphasized the crucial role of the Karachi Press Club in promoting democracy and contributing to the country’s development. He acknowledged the long-standing connection he has with the institution and appreciated its exemplary services for journalists. He further stressed that solving journalists’ issues is a top priority for the government, and several steps have been taken in this regard. The Chief Secretary concluded by stating that journalists are the mirror of society, playing a critical role in highlighting public concerns.
