Leaders of Tehreek Tahafuz Aeen Pakistan have strongly rejected the PECA Act, declaring it a threat to freedom of expression. Speaking at Karachi Press Club (KPC), they urged all political parties to set aside compromises and unite in the fight against suppressive policies.
During their media briefing, prominent figures including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Salman Akram Raja, Sardar Latif Khosa, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Asad Qaiser, and Sajid Tareen emphasized that Pakistan can only progress if governed by the constitution. They criticized the current government for stifling free speech and claimed that true democracy is at risk.
Achakzai pointed out that Pakistan, once a developing nation, has been led into crises by poor leadership. He argued that without constitutional supremacy, the country cannot function properly. He further accused the ruling elite of political manipulation, stating that those who sell their conscience are seen as loyal, while truth-tellers are labeled as traitors.
PTI leader Salman Akram Raja reiterated the demand for democratic rights, asserting that “the people of Pakistan want their vote to be respected.” He rejected the notion of appeasement and called for unity among democratic forces. Similarly, Latif Khosa condemned the use of force against unarmed protesters on November 26 and labeled the PECA Act as a fascist move against press freedom.
Other leaders, including Hamid Raza and Asad Qaiser, criticized the government’s foreign policy and its failure to uphold provincial rights. They reaffirmed their commitment to a united opposition striving for constitutional supremacy and true democracy in Pakistan.
